From farm to table, nothing beats locally grown produce and nutritious food! Every Sunday, my family and I would enjoy the Livermore’s Farmers’ Market, often stocking up on pretty fruits and yummy kettle corn!
Benefits of Farmers’ Markets!
According to the USDA, over 150,000 farmers, ranchers and such sell their quality produce and products directly to their customers. I think that’s pretty amazing!! To be able to see the people who grow the food you purchase seems much more appealing than going to a store and relying on a label or sticker. Farmers come to Livermores’ year round farmers’ market to bring you fresh vegetables, fruits and much more!
Another interesting thing about farmers’ markets that not a lot of consumers take into mind or recognize often are the benefits it brings into our community. Our dollar that we spend at farmers’ markets, essentially stay within our community. We support and help grow our local farms and economy! Civic Economies illustrated through a series of case studies that for every dollar spent, locally owned business are able to keep 30-45 cents while big chain establishments keep 15 cents in our local area!
Another reason why I love farmers’ markets so much is because of the variety and opportunity they provide not only for us, the consumers, but also for the producers, the farmers, ranchers, etc! Farmers’ markets are the perfect opportunity for business start ups and job opportunities for the community. The last time I went to the farmers’ market, I saw a freshman from my high school, a close friend, who was gaining work experience by working for a fruit jam stand! He was able to learn about communicating with customers and the importance of quality products for consumers!
2017 is off to its start and the best way to further enhance this year is to utilize your farmers’ market! From farm to your dinner table, this healthy choice will make your 2017 better than anticipated. The opportunity to at least get some fresh air and explore what your local farmers and community have to offer on Sundays will leave you happy and ready to embrace the new week! You’ll meet the wonderful people who take the time to grow the best of the best for their community and great friends in your area!
